What kind of network connections are needed for the plugin to function?
Your computer needs to have an active connection to the internet in order to log in and download the data from the various data sources. This can be using wired or wireless connectivity.
Do I need to install the Global Model Workstation?
No. The Excel Add-in can works in conjunction with the Oxford Economics Global Data Workstation or Global Model Workstation software. You must have an active subscription to one of these services.
Subscribers of the Global Data Workstation (Databank) can use the Excel Plugin to download data from the online service.
Subscribers of the Global Model Workstation can use the Global Model Workstation and selected bases as a data source if the software is installed and running.
Does any data leave our network once this is installed – either automatically or by manual action?
The installation will only deposit data to your local computer logs. Please ensure the XLL file has been extracted from the original zip file and stored locally in a permanent folder, if you try to run the plugin directly from the zip, it will run have performance issues.
When users operate the Excel Add-in, they will need to log in. The service will periodically send usage logs when in use. These logs indicate the “GET” requests made to our Global Data Workstation service and subsequently, confirmation that the Excel Add-in has received the data.
What firewall rules are required to use the Excel Add-in?
If you have strict network rules, you may need to whitelist a few IP addresses of the services that OE Excel Add-in communicates with (makes HTTP/HTTPS requests).
